Organizational Skills
Organizational Skills
Often people will think about Organizational Skills as a set of standard guidelines that lead them to organization. Organizing Skills are individualistic. Instead, I encourage people to think about what works for your organizational personality. There is no right or wrong way to organize, as long as: 1. You like it, and 2. It works for you. If it helps you, then it is a success.
- Studies show that 65% of people are visual and some of us are a combination.
- Visual learners often enjoy organization that involves clear bins, and color-coding. They want to see their possessions organized.
- Non-visual learners are perfectly content with manilla folders in a filing cabinet, so long as it is organized.
- I find that 90% of my seminar attendees are visual learners. Luckily, there are a plethora of color and visual organizing products in today's markets.
One of the principles that help people with their organizational skills is the rule "Like Items Together." You can group items either by how you use it, or it could even be how frequently you use it. For example, it is a good idea to have all banking folders together, and in that all credit card information together. However, if you find yourself reaching for 2 specific folders everyday, it is alright to make an exception and pull them to the front.
What might also help your organizational skills is to determine what a primetime for working is according to your body clock, and schedule time to work during that time frame. Also pay attention to how long you tend to be focuse on work, and do things in those segments.
